Ricardo Aguilar, Certified Arborist and pesticide applicator.
Note the date change – we are meeting on Monday.
Monday June 26 7 PM
Del Dios Habitat Protection League monthly meeting – Del Dios Fire Station
We are forming an AdHoc GSOB committee to foster Education, Oak health evaluations and more. Come join the conversation – we’ve heard the experts, now let's save our oaks.
I’ve been looking at more Oaks near homes in Del Dios and finding more GSOB. About 1 in 10 are oozing a dark brown/black sap associated with GSOB damage to the tree.
Bret Hutchinson, GSOB arborist, gave our training on Sunday to 40 people. He emphasized that many of our oaks can be saved using a pesticide treatment. In evaluating oaks in Del Dios, Bret's impression is only a few of our oaks look fatally infested with GSOB at this time. Considering all they’ve been through both fire and drought, this is really good news about a bad beetle.
Brett explained, as did Dr Tom Scott, that the big old Oaks are most sensitive to attack by GSOB and have the highest risk to dying after only a year or two of GSOB attack. The big oak at the top of Elm was dying of GSOB and removed last week by the county.
Many neighbors wanting to protect their high value oak trees have directly contacted Aguilar Plant Care. Ricardo Aguilar is putting together a schedule to visit homes on Wednesday morning, June 21st. Aguilar tells me he plans to treat trees in Del Dios starting on June 22. This spray treatment is what that was found to be most effective treatment for GSOB as reported by Dr Scott. If you are planning to spray your trees this season, please contact Ricardo right away by email - [email protected]
Come on down to Del Dios park with your questions on Monday, 6:30 PM so we can all learn together.
Thank you,
Stacy McCline
